Program Description / Statement of Need:
The value of combining continuous central venous oxygen saturation and cardiac output monitoring is presented in this lecture. Following an overview of the components of oxygen delivery and factors that affect consumption, case scenarios are used as a vehicle to discuss the importance of using both variables in the monitoring of the critically ill.
Target Audience:
This program has been designed for a multidisciplinary physician and nurse audience including: Emergency Medicine / ICU / Anesthesia / Peri-op / Intensivists / Trauma / Critical Care
Program Objectives:
At the completion of this program the participant will be able to: Define the four factors that affect venous oxygen saturation. From a case scenario determine which component of oxygen delivery and/or consumption is the cause of altered values.
