Pediatric Hemodynamic Monitoring
Program Description / Statement of Need:
The pediatric cardiac surgical patient presents with a unique set of challenges. Significant improvement has been made over the past few decades as to mortality and morbidity, due in part to more advanced hemodynamic monitoring capabilities. While surgical skill has increased, the volume of procedures performed in an institution has been shown to decrease mortality. Monitoring markers of inadequate tissue perfusion, such as lactate levels and SvO2 values post-operatively has significantly decreased complications. Clinicians need to be made aware of new developments in hemodynamic monitoring. This session discusses the rationale for use of SvO2 and lactate levels as well as the related research supporting their use.
Target Audience:
This program has been designed for a multidisciplinary physician and nurse audience including: ICU / Anesthesia / Peri-op / Intensivists / Trauma / Critical Care
Program Objectives:
By the end of the session the participant will be able to:
- Cite current studies supporting the use of lactate and SvO2.
- Identify markers of inadequate tissue perfusion.
- Determine factors that affect venous saturation values. .
Accreditation:
This CME activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of The Institute for Medical Studies (IMS) and ScientiaCME. IMS is accredited by the ACCME to provide CME for physicians. IMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 hours AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ .
